Neurodiversity-affirming Therapy

What does neurodiversity-affirming care mean to us?

It means you don’t have to explain yourself—I mean, you can if you want to, and we’ll listen—but you don’t have to justify why a certain counseling approach doesn’t work for you, why you don’t follow traditional parenting advice, or why you need the lights at a specific level to think clearly. Your neurodivergence isn’t a problem to fix.

It also means we have experience providing neurodiversity-affirming mental health care that helps our clients feel stronger, happier, and more at peace. Many of us are neurodivergent ourselves. We have professional experience working with Autism, ADHD, and other forms of neurodivergence. We also complete 20 hours of training on neurodiversity-affirming care within our first year of employment and participate in monthly neurodiversity-related study groups to enhance the quality of care that we provide.

Most importantly, it means your needs are at the center of the care you receive. We take your story seriously. We’ll bring our best knowledge and do our best listening to help you get what you need. Yes, neurodiversity needs more consideration in mental health care; but it is also just one of many important aspects of who you are. You deserve to receive mental health care that works for you, knowing that you are accepted, understood, and supported along the way.

By the way, we don’t always get it right. Therapy is a vulnerable process. It can be risky to put yourself out there; but if we’re missing something, we want to help you get what you need. We’re open to feedback and to learning together with you.
